THE DURABILITY AND QUALITY OF THIS MATERIAL SEEMS TO BE FINE. HOWEVER, THE ORDER WAS FOR ROLLS OF 50X120. I ORDERED 2 ROLLS AND THEY WERE BOTH SHORT 2.5 FEET. I CALLED TO ADVISE BUT WAS NOT OFFERED ANY TYPE OF ADJUSTMENT.
This is a great product for under vapor barrier. I'm cleaning up a small crawl space (passive wine cellar) and this allowed a much neater job with the vapor barrier. Looking much better than the job my contractor did 26 years ago!
I have crushed rocks in my crawl space so I installed Felt 550 to protect the vapor barrier in that part of my crawl space where I mostly walk or do some work and it feels so much safer there that I would advise anybody to install it everywhere possible just to be on safe side.
Ordered and received 5'x100' felt for installation in my home, as a consumer. It came shrink-wrapped on a roll, probably weighing 25 lbs. I was a little disappointed to find the product measured around 50" wide. It was hardly 5 feet wide as advertised. We didn't measure the length of product, but doing some rough math it probably measured 120-130ft or so. In either case it exceeded the 500 sq.ft. I expected. I was concerned the narrow product would have a tendency to shift under foot/knee traffic in the crawl, prior to and during installation of the vapor barrier. Installation was simple. We secured the strips together with Gorilla Tape and it held very well. There was virtually no shifting. I would recommend this step. Strength, thickness and cushioning provided by the felt are impressive, and will absolutely protect your vapor barrier from any sharp objects in the crawlspace. I would argue this product is probably more important than buying a high-dollar and/or high-mil barrier. We covered it with 6mil visqueen.
I used the Felt 550 to protect my vapor barrier from the crushed stone that lines my crawl space. I was very impressed with how strong it was. It was super simple to put down. I did put landscape staples through it to hold it down. It was challenging to get them through the felt. But a little hammering helped get them through. I really debated wether to use the felt but I am glad I did.
