I installed the 90 pt. unit in my crawl space after completely sealing the space. The humidity and moisture in the crawl space was so severe, the floors in the house had buckled, and floor joists were dripping with water. Had to replace 40 of them due to rot. I used 10' of flex duct as recommended on intake and output to insure air movement throughout the crawl space which is approx. 25oo sq. ft. When I started the unit, the rh was 89%. The next day it had dropped 10% and by the end of the second day, was down to 65% rh. I have it set for 50% rh and have no doubt it will reach that in the next day or so. It is extremely quiet and can not be heard in the house. I purchased the optional liberty condensate pump and the optional hanger system and was very glad I did. The installation was simple, 4 bolts into the floor joists and a level is all you need. I tapped a barbed fitting into the waste drain pipe under the house and the condensate pump, pumps directly to the waste line. I left a dip in the condensate pump line to retain water at all times and avoid sewer gas from the septic system. I am extremely satisfied with this unit and would highly recommend it to anyone with moisture problems. I had tried everything including foundation power vents, placing high capacity air movers in the crawl space, etc. and nothing worked. It just moved the humidity in under the house from outside. I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and summers here are very humid. I can't say much about longevity as it has only been in place a few days, but quality seems very good for the money and buying direct saved me a lot. I wish I had taken this route to solving the problem years ago. It would saved me a ton of aggravation, time, and money in repairs. I also could not believe how fast the shipping was. All three packages came the same time within a couple of days of ordering! Arrived by UPS in excellent condition.
I purchased the moisture medic HC70 . i have a 1700 sq ft. floor space in the crawlspace. Unit was easily installed. directions complete and accurate. The unit has only been in place a few days but i know it's working because the water is coming out the drain . Will probably purchase the remote for it later so i don't have to crawl under my house to see how it's doing.
It was easy to install with the optional hanger kit. Lowered the humidity from 78% to 57% in less then 24 hours. Runs quiet can only hear it if the TV is off and you listen real hard from inside the house.
I had a high humidity problem in my crawlspace, over 81%. I looked at several products, but settled on the Moisture Medic (rebadged Aprilaire 1820) with the 8082 communicating thermostat. I'm glad I did. I installed it and in one day the moisture level dropped 18 pts to 63%. After sealing the vents around the crawlspace and letting it work, the humidity level now stays around 55%, this morning it was 52%. The installation wasn't without issues, but Crawlspacerepair.com was great to work with. I worked with Larry to get it setup. The remote sensor (humidity and temp) would not work. It turned out I needed a separate 24 AC transformer (similar to the one for the fans) as the Moisture Medic 70 supplies 30v DC. Found a 24v AC 20VA (10va min was recommended), installed it, connected that to the thermostat and the system worked. I can now monitor/set the humidity level on my phone. This is the most cost effective solution out there!
Question..How far does the sensor have to be from the unit? My crawl space is approximately 3,000 sq ft. to get an average reading? Joe Costello
