12 Mil DiamondBack

This American Made crawl space liner is the basic string reinforced vapor barrier that can be compared to most other brands on the open market for the same stated thickness, 12 Mil. Actual 12 mil is equal to .012", not 12mm. This product is a nominal 12 mil, meaning does not measure 12 mil at the plastic but rather at the thread...just like all of its competitor products like duraskrim.

This crawl space liner does not contain any additives and is reinforced with a 1000 denier polyester cord to stabilize the layers and prevent tearing.
The appearance of this crawl space liner is bright white on the face and black on the back. Although it shares the color scheme of different brands on the market it is not the same. You will not find small pin holes in the this vapor barrier like you will in other white/black combination liners.
This product is available in the roll size of 12' x 85'. However, prior to shipping we fold the vapor barrier in half and roll it on an 82" core.

Pros:
  • easy installment
  • DIY friendly
Cons:
Not a professional and I was able install the Diamond Back barrier in my 1600 foot crawl space, mostly by myself, after watching a few videos provided by Crawl Space Repair. I'm not saying it was easy, it took me about 2 weeks and it's not as pretty or perfect as I'd like, but being a 59 year old woman with a few physical limitations I'd say that is a testament to ease of installment. The quality seems very good, but the judge of that will come after a few years. So far I'm happy with the result and I can now store a bunch of stuff under the house.

Pros:
  • Quality
  • Awesome customer service
  • Saved a ton $$$$
Cons:
Took on a 2400 Square foot encapsulation of my homes crawlspace. Was overwhelming at first but the material quote and outstanding assistance from Larry took majority of the guess work out. Went with 12 mil silverback reinforced poly for the walls and pillars and 20 mil silverback reinforced poly for the floors. 90 pint dehumidifier and pump. Material quote was spot on with just enough material for the job. Entire job took 2 months working at my leisure with the help of my father. Wood moisture readings previous to encapsulation were 18-25% with humidity readings of 80-85% . Wood readings post encapsulation are now as low as 6% some places and cant find a reading over 15% anywhere. Humidity is now steady at 53% with the dehumidifier cycling on and off. Highly recommend fan kit to improve dehumidifier efficiency. This job is not for a first time DIY person but someone with average skills can be successful. I saved about $15,000 by doing this job myself.
